INTERMEDIATE SKIPPER COURSE
This is an intermediate Skippers course and we ensure that suffiecient sea miles are achieved whilst on course in order to complete the training.
This course is conducted over 13 days in order to ensure sufficient miles on board at sea are achieved and 1 day set aside for the mandatory SAMSA VHF Radio Certificate.
During this course students will learn the principles of boat handling, rules of the road, sailing, crewing, navigation and watch keeping. You will also learn rope work, knots, rigging, maintenance and seamanship skills.
After successful completion of the SAS Day Skipper course you will be able to operate a sail or power vessel under 24m at sea from sunrise to sunset. Local waters are defined as 15 nautical miles from the skippers home port, or 25 miles from their home port provided they are no more than 15 nautical miles from an approved safe haven. This licence will be recognised for use in South African waters.
A South African national or a South African resident with a valid South African ID document may apply for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC) should they require this licence for use in International waters.
